What affects water well drilling cost in Alberta?

A useful estimate covers the complete water-supply project. Start with your property, your water demand and the work included—not just a drilling figure.

Request a property-specific estimate

Why there is no single price for every well

Location, drilling depth, ground conditions and equipment requirements shape the estimate. The depth and water supply you ultimately obtain are confirmed through drilling and testing. A figure from another property may cover a different scope or depend on assumptions that do not apply to your land.

For an acreage, describe household water use. For a farm or commercial property, include livestock or business demand and any planned expansion. See our Alberta water well drilling service for the information to have ready.

What to compare in a written estimate

Estimate itemQuestion to ask
Drilling and depthWhat depth or scope does the estimate assume, how is drilling charged, and how will changes be approved?
Casing and well materialsWhich materials and quantities are included, and which are additional?
Property access and travelWhat access does the drilling equipment need, and what travel or site-preparation charges apply?
Pump and pressure equipmentDoes the estimate include equipment and installation? Which work is priced separately?
TestingWhich yield and water-quality tests are included, and who arranges any additional testing?
Groundwater surveyIs WaterFind survey work quoted separately, and what does that quote include?
Taxes, exclusions and paymentWhat is the total for the stated scope, which charges remain additional, and when are payments due?

Surveying, drilling and pump equipment are separate decisions

We generally drill for customers who have used WaterFind first. Seismic groundwater surveying helps guide location planning; it does not replace drilling, yield testing or water-quality testing. Confirm survey costs and drilling terms separately.

A completed water system also needs equipment suited to its use. If pump equipment is outside the drilling quote, ask for a separate well pump and pressure-equipment estimate and discuss installation and service.

Check the guarantee against your written scope

Ask whether your project is eligible, what the guarantee covers and which charges remain payable. The drilling guarantee is subject to written-agreement terms. It should not be treated as a promise that every project expense is waived.

Drilling generally starts in July and continues until the snow flies. Confirm the current schedule for your property. A website enquiry starts the conversation; work and charges must be agreed separately.
